What is Animal Abuse? The
Michigan
Penal Code identifies abuse as failure to provide adequate care.
Adequate care means sufficient food, water, shelter, sanitary
conditions, exercise, and veterinary medical attention to maintain the
animal in good health. Animals are considered neglected if the owner
does not adequate provide for it.
Bay County Animal Control Information
Michigan Law requires that all dogs and cats over six months are
licensed. Licenses are due at the time of your rabies vaccination. For
fee information, call Animal Control (989 – 894 – 0679) or the
County
Treasurer
(989 – 895 – 4285).
Michigan Law requires that all animal bites that draw blood are
reported. Contact Animal Control (989 – 894 – 0679).
Stray animals with no collars are held 4 business days. With a
collar but without identification they are kept 7 business days.
Animals surrendered by their owners are available for immediate
adoption.
All dogs, cats, and ferrets adopted from the shelter are mandated to
be sterilized by an adoption contract.

does NOT sell animals for research.
The shelter puts unwanted animals to sleep by giving an injection of
medication that in most cases works very quickly.
Live traps are available for public use.
