Bay County Animal Control Information

  • Michigan Law requires that all dogs and cats over six months are licensed.  Licenses are due at the time of your rabies vaccination.  For fee information, call Animal Control (989 – 894 – 0679) or the County Treasurer (989 – 895 – 4285).
  • Michigan Law requires that all animal bites that draw blood are reported.  Contact Animal Control (989 – 894 – 0679).
  • Stray animals with no collars are held 4 business days.  With a collar but without identification they are kept 7 business days.
  • Animals surrendered by their owners are available for immediate adoption.
  • All dogs, cats, and ferrets adopted from the shelter are mandated to be sterilized by an adoption contract.
  • The Bay County Animal Control Center does NOT sell animals for research.
  • The shelter puts unwanted animals to sleep by giving an injection of medication that in most cases works very quickly.
