Humane Society of Bay County, Michigan

"You make a living by what you get.  You make a life by what you give."

- Winston Churchill

The Humane Society of Bay County is completely staffed by volunteers and always looking for people to assist with the following programs and fundraisers.  The only criteria to serve as a volunteer is that you are a member of the Humane Society of Bay County.  Click here to join.  Without your support and willingness to help-out we wouldn't be able to offer all of these wonderful programs!

Please contact us if you are interested in serving in any of the areas listed below.

 Agility Event:

Our annual USDAA sanctioned event tests a dog-and-handler team as they run a course of jumps, tunnels, A-frames, teeter-totters, collapsed chutes and more!  Over 100 volunteers are needed to make this event successful each year and help with managing the courses during the event, set-up/take-down of the course, and pre-event administrative work.

Annual Rummage & Bake Sale:

This fundraiser is held annually, each Spring.  We sell items and baked goods that are donated to the Society for re-sale and need volunteers to help with taking donations the day before, setting up, working the event, and clean-up.

 Christmas Cookie Trays:

Each year during the month of December we provide cookie trays to businesses who display our donation banks throughout the year as a special way of saying thank you.  Volunteers are needed to supply cookies, homemade candy and other treats, organize trays, and deliver them to businesses.

 Community Outreach Hotline:

As a 100% volunteer organization, we do not have a regular staff to take calls as they come in to our hotline.  Volunteers are needed to check our answering service each day and address our caller's needs.  This is an ongoing weekly commitment that would be fulfilled by serving one day each week.

 Dogs & Us Pet Walk:

This event takes place every Spring and is our largest fundraiser of the year.  Volunteers are needed to help collect and organize prizes, work the sales/food tables, oversee games and much more.

 Newsletter:

We are always looking for interesting animal-related articles to publish in our monthly newsletter as well as for help with editing and assembling the newsletter.

 Santa Photos:

We offer Santa Photos during two weekends in December when people can bring their pets in and have their picture taken with Santa Claus.  Volunteers are needed to help manage the event, play Santa and distribute flyers.

 Other Volunteer Opportunities:

We advertise throughout the community for most of our events and are always looking for talented people to create flyers and assist with distributing them.  In addition, there are a number of other opportunities to volunteer your time through-out the year.  We host display booths with educational materials and membership information at many events during the year as well as hold bake sales and other activities for the public.  Please check our Event Calendar each month for a full listing.
